This YouTube clip, "Using a Learning Theory: Constructivism," provides a brief overview of how a constructivist approach to teaching engages and inspires student learning.
Kendall College students enter the learning environment with different experiences. Supporters of the constructivist orientation to learning create experiences for students to have an opportunity to explore course content or topics. Proponents of constructivism claim, “learning is a process of constructing meaning; it is how people make sense of their experience” (p. 291). The role of the constructivist instructor is to “facilitate and negotiate meaning-making with [the] learner (pp. 295-296).
